Citadel - Canada Day - Part 2

July 1st- Part 2

It’s actually the first time in 2 years that we got the opporunity to visit the citadel and go inside. We’ve always just walked around and caught sunset up on the hill but never actually got to tour the place.

It really worked out well because for one, it was free, and two it was the perfect afternoon to do it weather wise. We were there once before but it was for a job so I wasn’t able to really see it, learn more about this place and really take my time photography wise. It may seem like a silly touristy thing to some but it really provided with a lot of interesting perspectives.

It’s honestly a really cool place, packed with history. I come from a country that was also colonized by the British and it was interesting to notice the similarities with locations in Mauritius, sometimes even the names are the same.

It was quite fun to capture a little bit of how it feels to be there and also capturing the people who worked there, all in their respective costumes for their roles. It was really out of my comfort zone to ask them if I could capture a portrait because I usually just take pictures of “what is” because my mind has so many ideas on how I would shoot this or that with what was going on around me. But I wanted to get a different approach…

Anyway, we had a lot of fun, edited those photos in a natural/filmic style to try to approach a timeless look.

Let me know if you like it!
